# A Jotform alternative for developers and AI agents

Jotform is one of the most complete form builders you can buy: a template
gallery in the tens of thousands, a long list of field types, a huge
integration directory, and a drag-and-drop editor that non-technical teams
genuinely like. If that's what you're shopping for, QuizGen is not a smaller
version of it — it's a different model entirely.

## The actual difference

**Jotform** is editor-first. You (or a teammate) open the builder, start from
one of 10,000+ templates or a blank canvas, drag fields into place, style the
result, and publish. Jotform AI helps too — but it helps *inside the editor*,
drafting a form you then adjust by hand.

**QuizGen** has no editor to open. A form is a JSON definition — written by
you, or by an AI assistant you point at [quizgen.dev/llms.txt](/llms.txt) or
the MCP server at `quizgen.dev/mcp` — and one `POST` turns it into a live
`quizgen.dev/q/...` link. "Make me a 6-question lead qualifier that scores
itself" is a sentence to your assistant, not a session in a builder.

## Where Jotform is simply better

Be honest with yourself about these — if you need them, use Jotform:

- **File uploads on a budget.** Both have them, but QuizGen's are paid-plan
  only: Pro gets 10 MB per file and 1 GiB of storage, Business gets 25 MB
  and 10 GiB. Free-plan and sandbox forms can't include a file-upload
  question at all.
- **E-signatures.** Jotform supports signature fields and has a dedicated
  sign product. QuizGen doesn't do signatures.
- **Payment processor choice.** Jotform connects to many payment processors
  out of the box. QuizGen takes payments too — a payment question on the
  Business plan charges the card in-form via Stripe — but Stripe is the only
  processor.
- **Template shopping and visual control.** If the fastest path is browsing
  a gallery and tweaking, or the form's look will be judged pixel by pixel,
  an editor beats JSON.
- **A generous hosted free tier** with a wide feature surface across its
  five free forms.

## Where QuizGen wins

- **An AI assistant does the building.** Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor reads
  [/llms.txt](/llms.txt) (or connects to the MCP server) and goes from your
  sentence to a live link — no field-dragging, by you or the AI.
- **Zero-friction start.** `POST` with no auth header and you get a live
  sandbox quiz, no account, live for 72 hours with up to 10 responses and
  claimable later.
- **Scoring and outcomes are core schema**, not an add-on: point maps and
  result buckets for lead qualification and "which X are you?" quizzes.
- **Forms as code.** The definition is JSON validated against a published
  schema (`/schema/v1.json`), so it can live in your repo, get code review,
  and deploy from CI like everything else you ship.

## Pick Jotform if / pick QuizGen if

**Pick Jotform if:** you need e-signatures or its wider integration
directory; a non-technical teammate owns the forms; or you want to start
from a template and fine-tune visually.

**Pick QuizGen if:** an AI assistant (or a script) should create and manage
forms; you want scoring/outcomes without add-ons; or you want form
definitions versioned in your own codebase instead of inside someone else's
editor.
